Community quiz competitions

Quiz competitions I have run for Nepalese community organisations in Melbourne since 2022.

I have run trivia-style quiz competitions for Nepalese community organisations in Melbourne since 2022. What started as a one-off set of slides for a children’s day has become a proper bilingual format — questions and rules in both Nepali and English, a custom slide theme, a participant handbook, and a printed rulebook. After a few events I got tired of rebuilding everything from scratch, so in 2026 I turned it into Quiz Runner, a reusable tool any organiser can use.

BnD Foundation Quiz Competition — 2025

Run on 7 September 2025 at Lynbrook, in association with NASEM and with support from Victorian Youth Fest. Every question and rule was in both Nepali and English, and Nepali answers scored double (10 points vs 5) to give teams a reason to answer in the language. I made the full event kit: a branded slide deck on a custom Beamer theme, a participant handbook, and a printed rulebook.

From the 2025 deck: bilingual rules and scoring, built on a custom Beamer theme.

Run on 30 October 2022 for the Nepalese Association of Victoria’s children’s day (Bal Diwas). Four category rounds of eight questions each, a 30-second timer, questions that pass to the next team when missed, and no negative marking. Plain Beamer slides with no custom theme — but the rules were the ones I have kept using since.

From the 2022 deck: four rounds, a pass mechanic, no negative marking.

What came next

In 2026 I turned this format into Quiz Runner — a single HTML file with a setup wizard, so any organiser can put in their own questions and run the whole night from a laptop without touching any code. The tool is live at yobin-tim.github.io/quiz-runner.
